I am a very independent person, I have to be constantly challenged and my brain has to always have focus and purpose. My new role as a stay at home mother is quite possibly the most challenging thing I have ever done.
Throughout my life I have constantly worked or studied, my brain needs these things to keep itself from going on a wobble. I’ve never been able to relax the same way as others, I always have to be doing something at the same time whether that’s reading in the bath, studying while I watch a Movie I can never simply turn off so-to-speak.
I finished my work contract when I was 5 months pregnant and for a while kept myself occupied with preparing for a new arrival, getting our new home organised and doing some online free courses.
I have a few courses on the go currently but find it hard to apply much time to them as they require a lot of concentration which in fairness has ebbed away by the time the baby is in bed and I get some very rare non-mummy time.
My planner obsession isn’t just about Stationery and pretty things, it is a way for me to focus my mind. As any mother knows you change when you have a baby and children, your mind is cluttered with feed times, bum changes, school issues and so much more. Sometimes you just need a way to write it all down.
My planner is my lifeline, it’s my sanity. I write everything in it from appointments to relevant quotes, poems to to-do lists.
In order to try and save a little more of my sanity I have signed up for National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWrMo ). The aim is to write a novel in the month of November, preferably 50k words however that is up to you. I am looking forward to this as it is something which I can jot during the day at nap times etc as it requires imagination not rigid concentration.
I have got some books to read to help me develop my skills before hand.
I have Creative Writing for Dummies by Maggie Hamand and The Everything Guide to Writing Your First Novel by Hallie Ephron.
I have also got my notebook ready for my novel and I’m making notes in my planner. I really cannot wait to start.
I would love to know what you do to maintain your sanity whether you are also a SAHM, worker or anything else!
Hope you enjoy:)
